5 Tips for Sending Holiday Cards This Season
Published: November 28, 2016
The holidays are upon us. You may be surprised to think of the concept of holiday cards as a way to reach out, but it's a nice way to strengthen the bonds you already have with others and show thanks. Sending cards to clients, customers, vendors, suppliers, and people who have supported your business or you personally is a great way to show appreciation and build trust moving into the new year. It takes just a small amount of effort, but those people will really love that you thought of them.
You and your business can stay on people's minds this holiday season. With just a little bit of effort, you can make everyone's holiday season a little nicer. Here are our top five tips for sending out holiday cards to the people who mean the most.
1. Send a Real Card!
This year, don't make a huge mistake. You've absolutely got to send a physical card for it to be worth anything! Anyone can open up their email, see a digital card, and then move on with their lives. It's honestly vastly more achievable and easy to send an e-card to people you know and ultimately will lack the desired effect. A traditional holiday card delivered courtesy of the US mail system will be so much more charming than a digital card and can be displayed-- instead of deleted.
2. Write a personalized message.
Don't make every card the same-- put a bit of effort into it by including a personalized message! Using a printing service that types the name of the people receiving the cards is so impersonal. Take the time to write a personalized message on the card using a nice pen-- never print anything out! Write their name, acknowledge your relationship ('thanks for the great work' or 'you are such a valued customer and friend of the store'), write a nice message, and sign your name. Easy!
3. Remember that small acts leave big impacts.
It sounds so cheesy, but people love to be appreciated. They really, really do. When you think about how much money you spend on advertising, promotion, and marketing, it really adds up to a lot. Small acts like writing a holiday card to someone who's important to you can mean a lot to them. When you consider that continuing to work with these people or have them support your business accounts for a lot of its success, suddenly sending a card doesn't seem like such a small act--- it's the least you could do!
4. Consider a custom holiday postcard.
It's a unique take on the card that will be just as beloved! It's unique and fun, but not as forgettable as a digital or emailed card or message. Take the time to write a heartfelt message and the recipient will love it.
5. Get those cards out early!
You absolutely have to send cards out early if they're going to get to their destination on time. Any cards that arrive after Christmas are just not going to matter--and might even make you look fairly silly. No, be sure that they are in the mail anywhere from post-Thanksgiving to December 10th. Period!
